The way concept of leadership is taught in school seems
quite erroneous because the concept can not be taught through textual
reference. It is a kind of attitude that is generated in the personality
through introspection. Did you ever muse over what should be the rulebook of a
leader? The pre-requisite of leadership is nothing but the approach towards
being a leader. It is a subconscious process that develops automatically
through actions and reactions of circumstances & events. If you ask a
leader of a cadre about what should be the attitude of a leader on the first
day of his being a leader, he would definitely just give a smile without any
straight-cut reply. The reason is he was a leader much before he got his post.
A leader was always a follower before and thus we can infer that leadership is
not a by-birth instinct. The attitude is the most important factor in order to
learn this skill. If we take example of global leaders from business, science,
governance etc., we would observe some common traits among all of them. They
are all learning endlessly which means they value their limitations and
insufficiencies but they don’t fear to correspond their knowledge with
application. They don’t feel scared to experiment and fail and they try to
interrogate their prospects and investigate their allocative aspects to make
their actions efficient and productive. Management books come with multiple
theories and tools to substantiate the concept in textbooks but the best way
this can analysed is through case studies. Theories are developed based on
assumption, premise and qualifications. Many theories are driven by egoistic
justifications which might help a theory to become objective but when a
subjective concept is forcefully objectified, it loses its true addressee. So,
why can’t everyone become leaders? Leadership can’t be taught; it is to be
learned. Leadership has 3 aspects such as psychological aspect, technical
aspect and existential aspect. The force of leadership without corroborative
pursuers, implicative struggles and challenging objectives is void. A leader
does not create a path, he tries to trace it. This idea might contradict with
others but the notion that leaders would no all is just a lame belief without
reasonable evidence. The modern approach of leadership is much absorbing and
decentralised. Now, leadership is not just personnel, it is system that always
leads each and every factor within that circle. To lead is also to follow up. A
leader looks back and forth while pacing and paving. Let’s now discuss the
aspects mentioned above.
Psychological aspect- A leader governs the system and looks
forward to lead its action. He never dictates the movements. We have found many
models of leadership but true leadership can be learned from the nature. She holds
and loosens the control over factors based on instances. Leaders captivates,
motivates and create a make-belief atmosphere which should not be prone to
revolting rather it should be coordinating and suggestive. Leaders should
respect their follower steps because it's his own step with certain variances.
He should look up to both its positive and negative gaps. A leader must not be
submissive and indecisive. He might have some limitations but he should have
the skill to fill the gaps during the course of leadership only. It may sound
rude but we should understand the cons of not doing it. Human psychology is
based on faith. When a follower starts feeling superior that leader, he becomes
turbulent towards every action and that is stupidity.
Technical aspect- A leader must not be most skilful person
in the group but he should know that other know what he does not know and also
that what other know about what he does not know. He is the topmost level of
management. He should have the power to design the system structure, channels
of communication, delegative needfulness. He must be aware about one step ahead
of his step and one step behind the followers’ step. A leader is always
responsible but virtually he is not liable for results but still he is made
liable because of demi-autocratic nature of the whole leadership system and a
leader should digest this obviousness. His subject is the strategic management
where he would not deal with heads and tails of the coin but the composition of
metal.
